THE BRAVE ONE PREMIERES IN NEW YORK
The Brave One held it’s premiere in New York City where the film was shot. |
It’s been 25 years since a teenage Jodie Foster starred in Taxi Driver; the story of Robert DeNiro’s pissed off cabbie taking revenge on the city. Cut to The Brave One with Foster doing a female Travis Bickle taking her anger out on thugs after the senseless beating death of her fiancé. |
At the premiere in New York’s Rose Hall at Lincoln Center, Lost star Naveen Andrews who plays Foster’s fiancé in the film recalls his emotions for the brutal fight scene. |
“Well there was a lot of grief in London where I was growing up so hopefully you have memories of that. Not very pleasant ones I have to say but I guess I have that to draw on. Grief isn’t just endemic to New York. We get it everywhere. It’s very difficult to say what any one of us would do if those we love are hurt or threatened. It’s hard to leave it to the law, isn’t it?” |
Director Neil Jordan wanted to capture the film’s violence by matching it to New York’s gritty locales, one of which was Central Park’s dark tunnel underpasses. |
“I traveled around in a truck for about four months looking for these locations all over Manhattan and the boroughs you know. I really just wanted to find the landscape that would reflect the landscape that was in her mind. I love to shoot violence. I don’t like to engage in violence but I do find it remarkably easy to photograph.” |
The Brave One which also stars Terrence Howard as a cautious cop on Foster’s tail opens Friday, September 14th in theaters. |
