MAROON 5 SAY BRITNEY SPEARS INCIDENT A WAKE UP CALL
Maroon 5 come to the defense of who they feel is an “exploited” Britney Spears. |
Maroon 5 is supporting their new single, “Wake Up Call,” off their latest album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, but vocalist Adam Levine says it’s the music industry and the MTV Awards that might need the wake-up call. |
Various reasons exist for the lackluster performance by Spears at the VMAs, but Levine told us that he felt she was being exploited. |
“Yeah, I mean it’s not nice to say nasty things, but it didn’t need to be on TV. I don’t think she was ready for that or equipped for that. I didn’t like the fact that she was exploited for that. I didn’t like that. Leave her alone.” |
Maroon 5 also talked about their new single. |
“It’s just a really weird idea I had. I had to write a song that was completely unrelated to me. I just had to play a character, play a a role. That’s why even in the video it’s just very far from myself. I just wanted to kind of have fun, and just be this other person.” |
“Wake Up Call” is the follow up to the smash hit, “Makes Me Wonder,” which showcased a different pop sensibility from the band. Maroon 5 have dates scheduled until November 10 in the U.S., where they’ll be on the road with The Hives and Phantom Planet. Starting November 25 in the U.K. Maroon 5 will tour Europe with special guests Dashboard Confessional. |
