CLIVE OWEN WINS THE HEART OF QUEEN ELIZABETH
Clive Owen stars as Sir Walter Raleigh, the suitor to Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth: The Golden Age. |
It’s 16th century Europe also known as the golden age and Queen Elizabeth I hasn’t had a suitor come to call on her in a dog’s age until a handsome adventurer Sir Walter Raleigh played by Clive Owen pays the court a visit. |
Owen describes their immediate attraction to one another. |
“He very quickly is struck by her and she’s not quite what he expected. There’s an attraction straight away and he’s hugely impressed with her I think. The one thing that sets Raleigh apart from everybody else is that he has an honesty about him. There’s a lot of people hustling for favor in the court and he has a sort of directness about him and he’s bold and straight and I think she finds that very attractive.” |
Clive talks about winning the heart of a Queen. |
“The relationship, both of them expect one thing. She thinks he’s sort of a professional charmer who’s gonna come in and try and woo and fund his ambitions and that’s what he thinks he’s gonna do but very quickly the relationship turns into something more meaningful than that.” |
Of course in a perfect world Raleigh and Queen Elizabeth would’ve made the perfect couple if she didn’t have the responsibilities of running a country. Waiting in the wings for Raleigh is her lady in waiting played by the fetching Abbie Cornish most recently seen in Candy opposite Heath Ledger. |
