MICHAEL CAINE COMFORTABLE WITH GADGETS
Michael Caine was very familiar with the remote controlled gadgets in his movie home. |
Michael Caine felt comfortable in the home of his character Andrew Wyke in Sleuth, which featured the latest state of the art gadgetry where everything is accessed by remote control. |
Caine’s says his own house could be on the cover of Wired’s Home edition magazine. |
“I have that kind of household myself. Yeah I’m a big technology freak and I’m always trying to get up to date with the latest and the clearest high definition television and computers and everything. And of course my house has a sort of similar thing with his which is if you come near my house at night all lights will go on and you’ll get a nice color digital photograph of yourself in the morning at the police station, and it’s all on computers inside but that is just modern guarding your house.” |
The biggest selling feature of the house in the film is the elevator that takes Caine and co-star Jude Law to the second floor. Director Kenneth Branagh made sure the lift would lift prior to shooting. |
“The elevator which was fairly crucial to the action of this because in a way it’s sort of pointless the elevator in this house and yet it had a way of Michael’s character kind of lording it over Jude’s character. We rehearsed so much because it was such a short shoot for this film acting, performance and mechanics were rehearsed and rehearsed. To answer your question the day before we started shooting the elevator was not behaving itself. When we came to shoot the elevator Gods took care of us. I’m not good in small spaces and I often think actually as I go into an elevator I keep my fingers crossed and touch whatever wood I can. It’s not my idea of fun.” |
Sleuth opens Friday, October 12th in theaters nationwide. |
