JERRY SEINFELD DIPS INTO BEE MOVIE
Jerry Seinfeld voices a honey bee on a mission in his animated feature Bee Movie. |
From the unique comedic mind of Jerry Seinfeld comes the animated film Bee Movie, the story of honey bee Barry B. Benson who leaves the safety of the hive to explore the real world only to discover humans have taken advantage of their sweet nectar. |
Jerry zeroed in on the idea of what would happen if humans were held accountable by the bees for marketing and branding honey. |
“If you want to tell a story about bees what should you talk about and I thought the big thing that’s going on is us stealing their honey. They work so hard to make this stuff and we just take it without them really knowing. They think they’re making it for themselves and we go in there and just take it away, put it in jars, labels. We’re making money off it and they’re just working away. So I thought that’s what they would really want to know about, that’s the story.” |
Jerry created a bee universe complete with it’s own set of rules and regulations. |
“There were laws like no weird shapes like circles and triangles; you know the hexagon is their shape. They invented the hexagon. There were laws like no buzzing past six PM while people were sleeping. So we just made up lots of laws but in the end the main law of the story is even though bees have always talked, they have never spoken to humans. The reason is they have enough trouble with them as it is.” |
The original inspiration for Bee Movie opening Friday, November 2nd came from the Seinfeld star’s late night watching of the nature channel which featured how honey bees make honey. For research Jerry also got the grand tour from a beekeeper who got stung on the nose while trying to impress the television star by showing him the queen bee. |
