JAY Z HOPING TO TIE ELVIS
Rap mogul Jay-Z is hoping to make history with his new album, American Gangster. If the album debuts at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart, it will be the rapper’s 10th Number One album which would put him in a tie with Elvis Presley. Jay-Z is currently tied with the Rolling Stones with nine Number One albums. The ten Number One albums would still only be good for second on the all time list as The Beatles reign supreme with 19 Number One albums. |
Jay-Z may have a little trouble topping the charts since he has decided not to make his album available on iTunes. The rapper explained, “As movies are not sold scene by scene, this collection will not be sold as individual singles.” |
“The reason to make a conceptual album for American Gansgter was there’s a lot of people that can relate to that story. There’s a movie that’s two hours, two-and-a-half hours long about this subject. There’s so many different emotions that’s left untold because you have to fit this into a format.” |
In related news, American Gangster features guest appearances by Lil Wayne, Beanie Sigel, and Pharrell Williams with production by Diddy, No ID, Jermaine Dupri, the Neptunes, DJ Toomp and Sean C. & LV. |
Jay-Z explained why he felt the need to record the conceptual album. He said, |
The latest single from the album is “Roc Boys.” |
