EMMY ROSSUM MAKES HER OWN KIND OF MUSIC
Emmy Rossum puts out her first studio recording which she describes as ambient pop. |
Phantom of The Opera star Emmy Rossum makes her CD singing debut with Inside Out, a personal collection of songs which describe her journey from screen to the recording studio. |
Emmy wanted to create a sound which is nothing like the score she sang in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical film. |
“I call it ambient pop. I think the songs are rooted and structured in a pop way but it’s got lots of lush, rich, textured vocals all of which are mine and I guess it’s really personal and sexy in kind of a new fresh way I think. Lyrically, I mean the songs are somewhat autobiographical. I’m not playing a character and the music is not like Christine in Phantom of The Opera. The lyrics are personal and their mine and this is the first time I get to be myself and I’m not playing a character.” |
Emmy actually began her singing career at the age of seven when she was discovered by her second grade teacher. Musically she’s matured and wants people to hear she could do much more than just hit the high notes. |
“It was actually my second grade teacher who heard me singing in the halls and pulled me aside and said, ‘you know I want to set up an audition for you with the Metropolitan Opera,’ and I said, ‘huh?’ I mean I had no idea I could sing. I knew I loved music. I knew I annoyed my family when I was banging on the dinner table playing drums. I stepped foot in the Metropolitan Opera and auditioned and they said, ‘welcome to the Opera,’ and the next day I was in rehearsals and a month later I was on the stage and I knew that I found my place in the world. It’s only fitting that I’m back in my home in music again.” |
The first single Slow Me Down uses more than 150 different vocal parts and harmonies, all sung by Emmy. Inside Out produced by Stuart Brawley who also penned Don Henley’s Taking You Home is available on Geffen Records in music stores now. |
