Josh Brolin stars in The Coen Brothers’ American western thriller No Country For Old Men. Based on Cormac McCarthy’s novel Josh plays a backwoods country guy innocently hunting antelope when he comes upon a Mexican drug bust gone bad and pilfers $2.4 million. |
Josh says he knows men like Llewelyn Moss who lived off the land to support their families. |
“I grew up on a ranch. I grew up with 65 horses, feeding 65 horses. I didn’t like it but I grew up working hard on a ranch. And I know these guys really, really well. Moss all he is is just a compilation of a lot of guys I grew up with and they’re all exactly like him. So there’s no this is far fetched or this or that. All these guys have these principles. All these guys would do exactly the same thing given the circumstance.” |
If Josh ever had a doubt about how his character would behave during a scene, all he had to do was pick up a phone and dial a friend. |
“So if I have a question about my hat I call one of my buddies and say, ‘would I wear my hat in a restaurant?’ What kind of restaurant is it?’ Well it’s Bob’s Big Boy. Absolutely, keep that hat on at Bobby’s Big Boy. If it’s a nicer restaurant, no definitely take it off. If you’re gonna drink wine take it off for sure.” |
Josh was not the first choice for the role. While shooting Planet Terror he submitted an audition tape he made with Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino which didn’t exactly put his best foot forward, but a follow up meeting with the Coen Brothers sealed the deal. |
