Akon, who was on hand for the announcing of the nominees, shared his thoughts on being nominated. He said, |
“So we got four nominations today which was a highly big surprise for me. I thought it was just one until I came down here and they started reading all the nominations. So I’m like….Give me one and I’m good.” |
Akon will be competing against Keyshia Cole, Fantasia, Emily King, and Ne-Yo in the best contemporary R&B album category. The singer explained that to him he’s already won. He said, |
“You really just appreciate people, you know people appreciating you, you know what I mean? Cause I always felt like the nomination was a way of people recognizing you, you know what I mean, along with all the other people that accomplished so much this year. This is like…it really is a win. They can only give the trophy to one person but everyone wins at the nomination.” |
Akon was also nominated in the best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocals, best pop collaboration with vocals, and best rap/sung collaboration categories. |
The 50th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 10th in Los Angeles. |
