KISS MASTERMIND GENE SIMMONS IS HUMBLED FOR APPRENTICE
Kiss mastermind Gene Simmons gives some straight answers in regards to his humility and money issues in light of starring in The Apprentice. |
Kiss bassist/singer Gene Simmons has been pegged, maybe wrongfully, as an arrogant, selfish and not caring about the fans. Gene is one of the contestants on The Apprentice Celebrity Edition, which premieres on NBC-TV on January 2, and although he is a good businessman, he does have a humble side. |
Simmons said that he can’t really be too full of himself – especially in relation to his competition on The Apprentice. |
“Well, you can’t really get too full of yourself. You know, the more accolades you get and the more money you make it tends to dull the senses. As you notice I don’t wear jewelry, I don’t like to walk around with body guards. I don’t have assistants. I try to keep my snoot close to the ground. It’s the way your senses work best. You can’t ever overestimate someone who is not a professional. They might outplay you.” |
Simmons explained his own humble beginnings in the game of work and money. |
“The first job I had was cleaning fat off of a butcher’s block. I had to take this thing that looked like a mop and get the fat off, and then of course I had to go down to the basement, which was rat infested, and bring up sides of beef. It was a pretty rotten job, but you know what? At the end of the week I really appreciated the money. That money I earned, and I felt proud. It wasn’t a craft. It wasn’t something I had learned, but I had pride in the work, in the labor, that I had done, so I appreciated the money.” |
Simmons then said that he’s lucky to be doing something he loved and he realizes most people don’t have that luxury. |
“This notion that you have to have passion and have to love what you’re doing is the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard. Most of the people on the planet don’t have that advantage. They have to go work at jobs they hate. They’d be lucky to have a job. The rest of us who happen to do what we love doing, it’s privilege and a blessing. The notion that you have to love what you do is nonsense. Just work and get paid. That’s enough of a value.” |
Simmons will go up against the likes of country star Trace Adkins, model Carol Alt, actor Stephen Baldwin, Sopranos star Vincent Pastore, and boxer Lennox Lewis among others for the right to be The Apprentice to famous entrepreneur, Donald Trump. |
