THE ROLLING STONES SHINE LIGHT ON WHITE AND AGUILERA
The Rolling Stones and Martin Scorsese get some fire power for Shine A Light concert movie film. |
The Martin Scorsese film Shine A Light is the acclaimed director’s take on the band’s two night run in 2006 at New York’s Beacon Theater. The film gets up close with the band and its friends for the shows. Guests included Jack White of White Stripes, Buddy Guy and Christina Aguilera. |
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards talks about White’s performance on the deep cut “Loving Cup.” |
“Hey, Jack’s great, man. It’s difficult to walk up in the middle of nowhere and just do one song. He handled it real well. I could tell he loved the song. I’m the songwriter, and ‘Hey, you loved the song.'” |
Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger also chimed in on White’s contribution. |
“And then I thought Jack White would be really good. He’s really in a rock band as we are, but he also has really bluesy roots, Jack. Also, he’d played some shows before, so he wasn’t an unknown quantity to us. That was a bit tricky thinking about what song to do with him. Though I played shows with him I’d never done a duet with him. So I didn’t know what it was gonna be like. I just picked this one out of a hat, and I thought it would be…instead of being a big thumping rock thing, I thought it’d be more Country. He told me that he liked country-type music.” |
Both Jagger and Richards talk about Christina Aguilera and her duet with Mick on “Live With Me.” |
[Jagger] “I thought of Christina because she’s got the most fantastic voice, and I think she really rocks. She really sings. She’s got a beautiful voice, but she’s also a really good performer. “[Richards] “Sweet, shy, unassuming lady. She did the duet with Mick. It’s like, it’s weird when you’re going, ‘Come on baby.’ And then you’ve got one song and you’re gonna be singing next to Mick Jagger….” |
The film also features Scorsese prominently in Shine A Light, trying to make sure the show is perfect. Bill and Hillary Clinton also make an appearance in the concert film. The flick hits theaters April 4. |
