BONE PALACE BALLET A MORE COMPLETE CHIODOS
Chiodos talk about the amazing success of their latest release “Bone Palace Ballet” and why they are a more complete band now more than ever. |
Chiodos continue to enjoy tremendous success on the strength of their sophomore album ‘Bone Palace Ballet’ and the album peaked at #5 on The Billboard Top 200 Chart upon it’s release. “Bone Palace Ballet,” which the band titled after a book of poems by Charles Bukowski, was also sitting on top of the Independent Album chart as well in early 2008. Chiodos, which consists of vocalist Craig Owens, keyboardist/vocalist Bradley Bell, guitarists Pat McManaman and Jason Hale, bassist Matt Goddard, and drummer Derrick Frost, also made a name for themselves on their recent tour with Linkin Park and Coheed and Cambria with their infectious music and energetic live shows. |
Chiodos’ debut album ‘All’s Well that Ends Well’ featured a different lineup without lead guitarist Jason Hale and we talked with Matt Goddard and Jason about “Bone Palace Ballet” being a more complete songwriting team with Hale on board. |
“Oh yeah, I’d definitely say that. It’s a huge new direction. The last album, half of it was done, maybe a little less than half when Jason wasn’t even a part of those songs. Nope. So, the new album is more of a complete thought with all of us working on it. It’s pretty bad ass.” |
We also talked with the band about the amazing chart success and we wondered if that was something the band even followed. |
“If I’m looking in a magazine i’ll definitely check it out to see what’s up there but I was definitely pretty…it was really crazy. Where you surprised? I was really surprised. I was surprised. It’s pretty gnarly. That’s a very low number and that’s good. It’s like golf.” |
As of 2008 “Bone Palace Ballet” has sold over 180,000 copies, clearly exceeding sales of the band’s debut. The band is currently on hiatus before starting another round of touring April 11th in Vancouver, British Columbia. Joining them on the western dates are Chiodos’ Equal Vision labelmates The Fall of Troy. For the eastern dates in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, From First To Last will take over The Fall of Troy’s spot on the tour which continues until April 25th in Montreal. |
