ROLLING STONES KEITH RICHARDS SHINES BEACON LIGHT
Rolling Stones guitarist talks about their movie Shine A Light, and he admitted it illuminated some aspects he never pondered before. |
Keith Richards, who recently wet his feet playing the father of Johnny Depp in the latest installment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies, plays himself in Shine A Light. The concert documentary by Martins Scorsese was filmed during a two night stand at New York City’s Beacon Theater. |
Richards talks about the storied venue. |
“The Beacon is probably smaller than most big nightclubs these days. It is a small room, but it is a theater. There’s something about the balconies and something about a sound that you can get out of a certain room, just because they’re built that way. It’s impossible to say what it is, but when you’re up on stage in a place like the Beacon theater or any odd theater, you know you’re in a place that was built for what you’re doing. I’m sure some time on they didn’t expect electric guitars, but at the same time there’s certain structures about the buildings that makes it very warm and very comfortable.” |
Richards says Shine A Light was apt for his point of view. |
“In a strange way I see things that you’re not aware of onstage when you’re doing it because you’re interacting in another way and you’re not seeing it from that kind of angle. You’re looking out, and everybody else is looking in. I found it quite a revelation in a way the job, and Marty caught it. He’s got me and Ronnie’s sly eye digs, and Charlie was like, ‘Um, hm,’ all the little things that we’re not aware of when you’re up there doing the job, because you don’t have time to think about it. It’s just a nudge here, and a allright, and a great solo, lousy, and all those little things that you didn’t know can be picked up. I found that fascinating and that Marty had picked up on a lot of that.” |
Shine A Light features guest appearances onstage from Jack White of the White Stripes, Christina Aguilera, and blues legend Buddy Guy. |
