SAVING ABEL CREATES X RATED DELILAH?
Some are saying Saving Abel’s “Addicted” is the X rated version of Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah,” shares inspiration for song. |
Saving Abel was one of the bands on tap for the Rock On The Range festival, held this past weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The band came in to the Active Rock based festival with the Number Two song in the format with “Addicted,” and some would say it is the X rated equivalent of Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah.” |
We asked singer Jared Weeks and bassist Eric Taylor about the inspiration behind the tune. |
“I was actually dating a chick at the time, and you know when you first get into those relationships and they get physical, and we needed a hit, so… I basically, I was walking down the hall and the words hit me, and I stopped right where I worked (at a hospital) picked up a doctor’s prescription pad and wrote the lyrics down to it. It took a little bit longer to put the music to it because we just had the words, and that’s basically it. After about three months we got it recorded and it is what it is now. I’m totally not ashamed, not afraid. We’re totally standing behind it and we’re proud of it, so…” |
So did she know the song was about her? |
“Yeah, I’ve talked to her. I dated her for a couple of years. I mean, once you’re out on the road you tend to lose touch with people like that because you’re bouncing everything out. You’re keeping your focus, and you’re doing the interviews and the liners and everything like that. She knows that song is about her, but not It’s not about us anymore. ‘It’s not about us anymore. It’s everybody else’s screwing song.’ I’m like, ‘Well, be proud of it,’ you know? (laughs).” |
The name Saving Abel is what you would imagine. Weeks was reading the story of the biblical brothers and he was moved by the narration of the story that read, “There was no saving Abel.” The band has a mix of tour dates for the next two months. They’ll begin a run of headline dates before opening for Puddle Of Mudd. |
