LAUREN HARRIS ADMITS IRON MAIDEN NEPOTISM

Lauren Harris is not going to BS people when it comes to her dad, Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris, and the opportunities being a daughter presents

Lauren Harris, the daughter of Iron Maiden bassist and writer Steve Harris, is currently opening for Iron Maiden with her band. Harris plays a different style of rock than dear old Dad, but it’s close enough in the Hard Rock category for the attractive singer not to be pelted by Maiden die hards.

Any heavy metal aficionado would love to have Steve Harris as a Dad, and Lauren said that she’s not ashamed to admit that he helped open some doors for her.

“You know, I do get the nepotism thing, and it’s understandable. I understand why people say that. To be honest, the reason why I did get the Maiden tour, the reason why I have come so far so quickly is because of my connections through my dad. I’m not doing to lie about that. I think that he can only take me so far and at the end of the day I have to work off my own merits in the end. I’m not just going to keep going on just on his name.”

She also was asked about the misconceptions that people have about her and her music.

“I guess maybe people going, ‘Oh she’s the daughter of Steve Harris therefore she’s such a way.’ I’ve had people say to me, ‘You’re not metal enough or you’re not hardcore enough,’ and stuff like that. People have this kind of bubble around the Steve Harris thing, the Iron Maiden thing, so, ‘you should be this good. You should be like this, you should be wearing this, you should sound like this.’ Stuff like that really, just preconceptions that people have or expectations of how I should be because I am his daughter and he has achieved so much.”

Despite landing the Iron Maiden tour, she actually had her first gig opening up for Alice Cooper. Lauren Harris recently released her new album Calm Before The Storm.
