Rising singer songwriter, Matt Morris gets interviewed by Charlie Sexton about being the first musician to perform at Bonnaroo in 2008 |
Each yeat at Bonnaroo, it’s well known a few up and coming artists perform inspiring sets that catapult their careers and 2008 was no different. Singer songwriter Matt Morris, who had the honor of the opening slot at Bonnaroo in 2008, certainly turned some heads and captured some new fans with his performance in front of some serious music fans. In fact, Morris added guitar virtuoso Charlie Sexton to his bands lineup and they performed songs from Morri’s upcoming debut album ‘The Un-American’ of which Sexton is producing. |
We caught up with both Matt Morris, who is being interviewed by Charlie Sexton, to get their thoughts on kicking off Bonnaroo in 2008. |
“(Sexton) So Matt, tell me what was it like for you to open up and be the first performer at Bonnaroo this year.” “(Morris) Well Mr. Charlie Sexton I think being the first performer at Bonnaroo this year is a tremendous honor and a priveledge for me and it was great too because I got a big crowd. People wanted to hear music and they’re like ‘Oh there’s music over there! We got to go listen to it!'” “(Sexton)They were tired of setting up the tent.” “(Morris) They were like ‘I’m hot and sweaty and I want some music.'” |
Matt Morris also talked with Charlie Sexton about both of them making their first Bonnaroo. |
“(Morris) So how was it for you performing with the first person performing at Bonnaroo this year?” “(Sexton) Wow it was really a first.” “(Morris) Yeah? That’s right it was. It was a first.” “(Sexton) This actually was both of our first Bonnaroo’s and it’s cool. I’ve been to a few festivals but mostly as playing in them never attending, which is basically what we’re doing here as well. But there’s a reason why people come from all over the country to come to this one because it’s totally groovy.” “(Morris) There’s something special here. From what I’ve seen so far and from what we experienced on stage yesterday, people really really appreciate music.” |
Recently Matt Morris signed with Justin Timberlake’s new label, Tennman Records. Morris and Timberlake met when they were both actors on The Mickey Mouse Club back in 1991-1994. Already to his credit, Matt has penned songs for Justin Timeberlake, Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera and now he finally looks to release an album of his songs with his voice. Morris will look to have the album released in the coming months. Charlie Sexton, who has recorded and toured with Bob Dylan’s band as well as in the John Mayer Trio, recently released his latest album “Cruel and Gentle Things,” which is out now on Back Porch Records. |
