GYM CLASS HEROES STAND UP TO RACIST
Gym Class Heroes are currently touring as part of the Warped Tour this summer, but their appearance hasn’t been without incident. |
Gym Class Heroes have their singer’s back regarding recent trouble at one of the stops on the Warped tour. Vocalist Travis McCoy had a run in with a fan at the Maryland Heights, Missouri tour stop earlier this month, and after being called a racial slur, that same fan hit him in the knee forcing Travis to defend himself, said the band in a statement. |
We caught up with Eric and Disashi of Gym Class and asked them if it was shocking to experience this kind of hate in 2008. |
“I don’t think, for me personally, I wasn’t necessarily surprised that that happened because I think things have gotten better but it’s still not perfect in terms of racism and other kinds of hate, but I was definitely surprised that it happened right then and there. In all these shows that we’re playing something like that is the exception and not the rule. All these people come together hundreds of thousands of kids every day and s–t…stuff like that never goes down, so it definitely caught me and everyone else in our band off guard.” |
Eric added. |
“You know for that guy to come here and just… He didn’t just disrespect us he disrespected the whole entire friggin’ Warped Tour and everybody there, so that was a pretty big surprise.” |
Gym Class Heroes are readying their new album, The Quilt, for release on September 9. The first single from the collection will be “Cookie Jar.” |
