THE PINK SPIDERS SWEAT IT OUT AFTER FIRE, ROBBERY, TWO LOST MEMBERS
The Pink Spiders will release their new album, Sweat It Out, on Tuesday, September 23, after a hellish year for the band. |
The Pink Spiders are finally releasing their new effort, Sweat It Out, on September 23, and it’s been a long road for vocalist/guitarist Matt Friction and company. The band parted ways with their label Geffen, had various travel calamities, and lost drummer Bob Ferrari and bassist Jon Decious. |
Friction talks about the past year’s difficulties. |
“The past year for the band has been pretty trying between the major label situation, trying to figure out if they were going to release the record, then finding out that they’re not. And then basically maneuvering a way to have it come out. And it’s like a lot of business stuff that as a band you don’t want to have to deal with. You just want to be a band and tour and just make music. Financial constraints that come from that because you’re not sure what’s going on. You’re not touring because you don’t know when the record is coming out. So you’re sitting home a lot, and I think that kind of weighed on everybody.” |
Friction said that The Pink Spiders bad luck was a little too much for Ferrari and Decious. |
“We had a break into the van on tour and we had a bus catch on fire, and I think one thing led to another and eventually a straw broke the camel’s back somewhere, and also from touring and doing it for six years. We’re pretty young guys and the other two guys just got burnt on it. I really wanted this record to come out. I really wanted to tour on it, and I have a lot of friends in Nashville that are familiar with the band. Raf’s has toured with us over the years, and Nick is one of my best friends. It kind of worked out that Nashville had so many talented people that it was easy to get people to fill those roles.” |
The Pink Spiders first single off Sweat It Out is “Gimme Chemicals.” Frictions new bandmates are Ben Young on Bass, Raf on keys, percussions and backing vocals, and Joey B-Side on drums. |
