THE WHO BOOK MINI TOUR THANKS TO MICHAEL J FOX
Roger Daltrey shares his thoughts on The Who living up to their promise to Michael J Fox to perform at his Parkinsons Disease Benefit |
The Who recently concluded a brief run of North American Tour dates and now the band embarks overseas for a few shows in Japan. The Who’s Mini North American Tour was actually set up so the band could honor a promise to actor Michael J Fox and perform at his Parkinson’s Disease Benefit, which takes place every year in November. The Who have always been known for philanthropy, whether performing for the Robin Hood Foundation or their annual Teenage Cancer Trust Benefit and the band’s appearance at Fox’s Parkinson’s Benefit fulfills a promise to their friend. So, what’s next for The Who? Rumors are swirling both Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey will look to possibly get back into the studio together to work on new material. |
We caught up Roger Daltrey at The Movie Premiere of The Who Live at Kilburn to find out what the future plans are for The Who in 2009. |
“I don’t know. I live today and enjoy today. We try and make plans but they’re never like…it’s always better. It’s like music kind of spontaneity. This little tour we’re doing now, it happened because five years ago we made a promise to Michael J Fox to do his charity. To get The Who to America with all our equiptment and everything is a very expensive business and he only does his charity on one day of November every year.” |
Roger Daltrey also admitted The Who’s recent run of tour dates was in fact set up, so the band could perform at Michael J Fox’s Parkinsons Disease Benefit. |
“We thought, well we might not live that much longer and we got this promise to honor so we engineered a way to…this whole tour was engineered really to get us hear in November to do his charity. We put a few gigs around it and it’s been fantastic. But it kind of came through the letter box. It’s not that kind of future and that’s how we go on.” |
The Who are scheduled to appear in Japan from November 13th-19th. The band does have a few shows booked in London in December before taking off for the holidays. The only shows in 2009 scheduled as of press time are March 21st in Auckland, New Zealand and March 29th in Melbourne, Australia where the band will appear at The Formula 1 Grand Prix. |
