WITH SOME MAD HOPE, MATT NATHANSON GETS TO TAKE HIS TIME
Singer songwriter Matt Nathanson talks about getting to take his time on his latest album “Some Mad Hope” which was three years in the making |
After three long years in the making, Matt Nathanson finally got the opportunity to release “Some Mad Hope” which was his follow up to 2003’s “Beneath These Fireworks.” After leaving Universal after the release of “Beneath These Fireworks” Matt went into the studio to begin the writing process for “Some Mad Hope” and landed on his feet at Vanguard Records. “Some Mad Hope” peaked at #60 on The Billboard Top 200 and landed the #3 spot of the Top Independent Albums Chart. |
We caught up with Matt Nathanson recently to get his thoughts on being able to take his time in the studio during the recording process of “Some Mad Hope.” |
“It was a really long process. It took about three years making it. I put out my last record on Universal and that was kind of a shitty experience. I guess shitty, it just wasn’t very fun. So, I made this last record myself and then it took as long as it took to make it and toured in between making it. So we’d go to the studio and then we’d go back on the road and then we’d go in the studio and go back on the road and then it came out about a year ago. Yeah, it was a long birth. I hope the next one will be a little bit faster and a little bit more…I feel like we finally got in the groove with the band and myself and the producer.” |
Matt also talked about songwriting while on tour and why he’s looking forward to getting into the studio to begin recording his next album, which he plans on releasing in the near future. |
“I’m writing songs on tour always and I’m kind of going to go in here…in between…we’ll go in before the Fall Tour starts a little bit and we’ll go in right after the Fall Tour. Kind of make a record like that, piece meal. Kind of go in a spalunk it. You know what I mean? Just kind of go in and investigate and tap with a hammer and see what happens.” |
Matt Nathanson is currently on tour in support of “Some Mad Hope” with Jesse Baylin as his supporting act. Tour dates extend until November 23rd in Toronta, Canada. Look for Matt to get back into the studio after the tour concludes so he can resume work on his next album, which he hopes to release in 2009. |
