SMASHING PUMPKINS DEBUT NEW VIDEO G L O W ON MYSPACE
In the midst of their 20th Anniversary Tour, Billy Corgan talks about his musical partnership with drummer Jimmy Chamberlain in The Smashing Pumpkins. |
The Smashing Pumpkins continue one of the busiest and most creative times in history as the band nears the end of their 20th Anniversary Tour, which hit multiple nights in such cities as New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington, Kansas City and their hometown of Chicago. The Smashing Pumpkins are thrilling their fans on the current tour as they are performing completely different sets at each show, with no songs being repeated. As the tour continues on, the band decided the time was right to debut the video for their latest single “G.L.O.W.” solely on MySpace. The new single, which was released via The Guitar Hero World Tour video game, marked the first time a band recorded a new song exclusively for Guitar Hero. |
We caught up with Billy Corgan to get his thoughts on his musical relationship with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin and why he’s the perfect complement to interpret Corgan’s songs. |
“I think my relationship with Jimmy really points to the fact that I like working with somebody who will help interpret my songs. I think that’s been the difficulty. It’s not finding new musicians; it’s finding good interpreters of the songs. I think the frustration is when you give the song to somebody and they just don’t give you back any energy to the point where you think ‘Oh, I see a bigger vision of the song.’ I often times think of people like Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton who were working with great collaborators and when those people where in the room those people’s songs got better. So, we just haven’t been blessed with the type of musicians up to this point that are able to give that information back. That being said, now I think we’ve found those people.” |
The Smashing Pumpkins 20th Anniversary tour extends until December 7th and 8th in Chicago, Illinois. Fans of The Smashing Pumpkins can also purchase their first ever live DVD “If All Goes Wrong” which documents the band’s run of small club shows during their reunion tour on 2008. |
