DROPKICK MURPHYS RECORDING LIVE ALBUM ST PATRICKS DAY
The Dropkick Murphys reveal they’ll be recording a live album St Pat’s Day 2009 where they hope to throw on some new songs they’ve been working on |
The Dropkick Murphys continue to tour in support of their latest album “The Meanest of Times” and as the band wraps around The U.S. they are once again eyeing their annual St. Patrick’s Day shows in their hometown of Boston. 2009’s St. Patrick’s Day run will kick off March 12th and extend until March 17th as they will perform seven consecutive shows at The House of Blues. In what promises to be another special run of tour dates, The Drop Kick Murphys will be recording the shows to release their upcoming live album, which they hope to release this fall. |
Artisan News recently caught up with Ken Casey and Scruffy Wallace of The Dropkick Murphys to get their thoughts on recording a live album during their St. Patrick’s Day run of dates in Boston, in what has become an annual tradition for the Irish influenced band. |
“You know we still feel like we’re touring on that album but we are working on some new songs. We’re recording this St. Patrick’s Day in Boston for a live album and we’re trying to get some of the new songs we’re working on ready to play and record live. Hopefully just to have something new on there and also to kind of let people know that we’re working on new stuff.” |
Ken also talked about the band starting their own record label, Born and Bred Records and how great it’s been for them to have the freedom to make all their business decisions. |
“No, I think it’s been great. I mean it’s not like we’re boxing the CD’s and sending them out. We have a distribution situation through Warner Brothers but instead of having to argue with a record company over what you think is right or wrong for your band, we make all those decisions. So, there’s no one to blame it on if we screw up, you know what I mean?” |
The Dropkick Murphys plan to have their St. Patrick’s Day live album released in the Fall and another studio album to be released around St. Patrick’s Day 2010. The Dropkick Murphy’s recently performed as part of The Big Day Out Festival in Australia and New Zealand as they continue to gain fans around the world with their energetic live shows built around a blend of Irish Folk songs combined with a Rock influence. Although the band doesn’t have any future tour dates planned after March 17th, you can expect the band to announce another run of tour dates in the very near future as well. |
