BLACK TIDE PARTYING DISTRACTING SCHOOL WORK?
Black Tide’s Gabe Garcia is now 16 years old, but he still has to do school work, but that’s hard with their partying and touring on the road. |
If you’re a high school kid in a touring rock band do you do homework or do you party with the ladies? If your son is a budding rock star, how do you try to be a dad and not be the bad guy? These are the questions surrounding Black Tide and the still underage Gabe Garcia. Black Tide is on tour with Escape The Fate, and the singer’s father is the tour manager for the band. They’re still traveling in a van, and setting up their own equipment while supporting their debut, Light From Above. |
We asked Garcia bout keeping up with schoolwork on the road. |
“Well, I mean at first, when we first started touring, I was doing all my schooling and stuff like that. But it’s really hard to keep up with that, especially the way we live, it’s just so hard. There’s usually no internet first of all, then you’re tired. You’re either playing or hanging out. That’s your time off. So, it’s just hard to do. I haven’t really been doing it.” |
So what have been some of the messed up things out on the road? |
“There’s a lot of crazy things that’ll happen, man. A lot of things that we’re not even allowed to talk about because it involved jail time and s–t. But it’s pretty crazy. Crazy s–t happens on tour. And it’s like, girls are insane. I love them to death, but girls can cause some pretty big problems. That and just pretty stupid stories that we’ve been through, just stupid s–t that goes on. A lot of partying bad times too from it, but it’s all good. It’s just crazy.” |
And is that weird knowing that your father is the tour manager out on the road with you? |
“It is kind of weird, you know. Just having your dad out on tour, well at first it’s really super-weird. You can’t even handle how weird it is! But after a little bit you become more like a friend to your father. It’s more like just friends. It’s more like he let’s me do pretty much whatever, you know. Because we’re friends. I’m pretty much his friend, so it’s cool.” |
Black Tide’s tour with Escape The Fate ends this week. They’ll tour Japan with Trivium, and then head out on the WARPED Tour.rn |
