SHINEDOWN TRUSTED BY LABEL, WANTED BY GREEN DAY PRODUCER
Shinedown is one of the more successful rock bands, and despite label transparency, they’re very much trusted, and in-demand by Cavallo. |
Shinedown has quietly become one of the biggest rock bands, and their place has been solidified with their hit song “Second Chance.” The song is off their latest album Sound Of Madness, and it’s their third major label release. |
Legendary producer Rob Cavallo, who has worked on albums by Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls and My Chemical Romance, guided the band through Sound Of Madness. We asked the band how they managed to convince Cavallo to produce the album. |
“I didn’t know who he was and a lot of people were like, ‘How did you get Rob Cavallo to do your record?’ Well he wanted to do it (laughs). I think that was initially why the record sounds the way it does. I think that if you put on Sound Of Madness, honest to god, I think you can tell that we were actually having a good time when we were making it. I think if you listen to the other two records, not that they’re bad, but you can sense the stress. It sounds like a band that was searching. We weren’t searching anymore on this one.” |
Shinedown also is one of Atlantic’s most prolific artists, despite the label push being at a minimum. Some could look at it as indifference, but some would look at it like the label trusts in them. |
[Barry] “There’s definitely a trust there for us.” [Brent] “They gave us a lot of freedom.” [Barry] “They pretty much let us do… Look, we’re on three records which is amazing for bands to do nowadays. Most bands can’t get to a third record, so we’re lucky on that. And our third record happens to be doing so much better than the other two, so obviously the band’s doing well. So they trust us. They trust in us and trust in what we do.” [Brent] “That was the biggest part of it all. We’re lucky that our label, Atlantic Records, gave us the freedom to not have a time limit. It wasn’t about ‘how fast can you get it done?’ It was more or less ‘whenever you’re ready for it to be finished or whenever it’s done, then turn it in.'” |
Shinedown wrapped up their tour with labelmates and openers Halestorm in Lake Buena Vista, Florida on Tuesday, April 7. |
