KERRY KING, SCOTT IAN AND MATT SORUM ON OZZY AND BLACK SABBATH BEING GOLDEN GODS
Kerry King of Slayer, Scott Ian of Anthrax and Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver on why Ozzy and Black Sabbath are the true Golden Gods. |
The first annual Revolver Golden God Awards are set to air Saturday, May 2nd on MTV2 and it’s billed as the first and only award show in America dedicated to Heavy Metal Music. Hosted by comedian Brian Posehn, The Golden God Awards features pre-taped performances from Megadeth, Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, All That Remains and Suicide Silence and a special DJ set from Corey Taylor of Slipknot. Many of Metal’s biggest names came out to celebrate the genre and Ozzy Osborne, who was honored with a lifetime achievement award. |
Many of the musicians on hand talked about how important Ozzy Osborne is to Heavy Metal Music. Artisan News caught up with Kerry King of Slayer and Scott Ian of Anthrax to get their thoughts on Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi being true Golden Gods of Rock. |
“(Kerry King) Well you can’t get much bigger than Ozzy but as a guitar player for me how about Tony Iommi, how about Glen Tipton (Judas Priest).” “(Scott Ian) Tony Iommi!” |
Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver also talked about how much of an influence Ozzy and Sabbath had on Heavy Metal music. |
“You can’t give Ozzy enough awards in my opinion. I mean if it wasn’t for him none of this would be happening. All the kinds of music that we all grew up listening to it all trickles back to Ozzy, Black Sabbath. I grew up with Sabbath. The bands I grew up with Deep Purple, Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Stones you know all that mixed together became the musical style that I’m into. Some guys go a little heavier with maybe more Sabbath and that style and I’m really into honoring Ozzy tonight.” |
Just a few of the other awards given out at The Revolver Golden God Awards were Best Underground Band: Isis, Album of the Year: Metallica, Golden God: Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Monster Riff of the Year and Best Live Band: Slipknot, Most Viral Video: Protest the Hero, Best New Talent: Suicide Silence and Best International Band: Dethklok. The evening also featured special appearances by Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, Glenn Danzig, and Maynard James Keenan of Tool and Puscifer to name just a few of the musicians who came out to show their support. |
