ALLMAN BROTHERS EVICTED FROM NYC’S BEACON THEATER
After 188 consecutive sell outs The Allman Brothers Band will no longer be performing at The Beacon Theater in New York City, and find out why right here. |
Dating back to 1991, The Allman Brothers have been calling New York City’s Beacon Theater their home away from their Macon, Georgia roots. With 188 consecutive sell outs at The Beacon, fans of The Allman Brothers have been flocking to the venue for their annual multi night run of shows and 2009 was saw the band perform perhaps their best run yet. For the bands 2009 40th Anniversary Tour, a few of their friends came out to help the band celebrate an amazing four decades together. Just a few of the special guests were Eric Clapton, members of The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Phish, The Band, ZZ Top, Boz Scaggs, Buddy Guy and Kid Rock to name just a small sample. What a special way to not only celebrate 40 years of The Allman Brothers but also celebrate the last run for the band at The Beacon Theater. |
Artisan News caught up with Butch Trucks to find out the reason The Allman Brothers won’t be heading back to The Beacon Theater. |
“It’s also the last Beacon run. Dcirque Du Soleil is moving into the Beacon starting in January. We have 188 sell outs in a row going all the way back to 1991 I believe. It’s just very special and it’s a damn shame but we’re going to have to find another venue in New York to do it and we will. There’s a lot of theaters on Broadway that are dark right now. The economy’s not that great so we’ll find another place to replace it and hopefully it’ll be as good. You know, the music as long as we’re there and the crowds are there and we have a venue that’s similar than we’ll do it.” |
