CHICKENFOOT KEEPS GETTING BETTER FOR JOE SATRIANI
Guitarist Joe Satriani talks about his new band Chickenfoot, song writing with Sammy Hagar and why it keeps getting better and better |
Guitar master Joe Satriani burst onto the global musical scene in 1987 with the release of his second album “Surfing with the Alien” and the album, which went platinum in The U.S. alone, showcased Satriani’s musicianship, song writing ability and producing skills. Always known for his amazing instrumentals many wondered what Joe Satriani would be like in a more performing with a lead vocalist in a more commercial sounding band. So after being invited to jam in Las Vegas with Sammy Haggar and Michael Anthony formerly of Van Halen and Chad Smith, drummer for The Red Hot Chili Peppers, things went so well they decided to get in the studio and see if they could write songs together as Chickenfoot. |
Artisan News caught up with Joe Satriani to get his thoughts on forming Chickenfoot after their first show together in Las Vegas. |
“So I grabbed my guitar and got on a plane to Las Vegas and I jammed with these guys and it was so good we said ‘Hey let’s see if we can write songs together.’ So Sammy and I got together and we wrote some songs and Chad and Mike came over and they went ‘Hey those are pretty good. Let’s do them like this instead.’ So we started recording them. That’s kind of how we did the record for the next ten months, just doing that over and over again and it just got better and better and better.” |
In his younger days Joe Satriani was a guitar teacher for players such as Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Larry LaLonde (Primus), and Charlie Hunter, among many others. Chickenfoot have announced world tour dates which start in Europe beginning June 2th in Austria and extending until July 12th in The Netherlands. Chickenfoot will then head back to North America with dates beginning August 2nd in Canada and finishing up September 5th in Lake Tahoe, NV. |
