THE CRYSTAL METHOD DIVIDED BY NIGHT WITH NEW ORDER AND MATISYAHU
One of the best selling electronic acts in history, The Crystal Method are currently touring in support of their latest album “Divided by Night” which brings together the dynamic duo of Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland along with a multitude of their friends. Featuring performances from Peter Hook (of New Order), Matisyahu, Justin Warfield (of She Wants Revenge), LMFAO, Samantha Maloney and Jason Lytle (of Grandaddy), “Divided by Night” was the first album The Crystal Method recorded in their brand new state of the art studio in Los Angeles, Ca. |
Artisan News caught up with Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland to get their thoughts on recording “Divided by Night” in their new studio. |
“It’s nice. It’s nice that we were able to sort of move on from an environment that we were really comfortable with. Comfortable in the sense of what things sounded like in our old studio. But yeah, the transition was pretty smooth and I think it’s like going into a studio apartment with a comfortable bed to a penthouse that has a lot more space. Sort of exactly like that but totally not like that. Sort of grasping at straws there but it was pretty smooth. This is our deluxe apartment in the sky.” |
Reggae rapper Matisyahu joins The Crystal Method on their first single “Drown in the Now” and Ken and Scott talked about getting a chance to work with such a talented artist. |
“We met him at a festival up in British Columbia in July. He came over and joined us onstage in sort of an impromptu moment that was initiated by him. While in the moment on stage we knew immediately that this had potential as a collaboration for the album. We sent him a track and he was really into it and took the time to deliver a really great vocal. Yeah, it just turned out really organically. He’s a really nice guy and he’s a really talented guy.” |
The Crystal Method’s music is being used to score the new ESPN film X Games 3D: The Movie, which is due in 3D theatres across the country August 21. The music duo’s various works will be featured throughout the film including original tracks and reworked versions of material from their current album as well as from their earlier records. The new video for “Drown In The Now” features scenes from the movie that immerse sports fans into the world of action sports and its top stars and interspersed with the original animation version featuring vocalist Matisyahu. The Crystal Method are currently on their biggest tour since their “Legion of Boom” Tour with dates extending until Sept 5th in Warsaw, Poland. |
