COUNTRY LEGENDS HAVE TAYLOR SWIFT’S BACK AFTER VMA INCIDENT
Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris share their thoughts on the absurd antics of Kanye West during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at The VMA’s. |
As the dust finally begins to settle in the latest Kanye West controversy involving yet another award show, many people are still applauding Beyonce for having the class to call Taylor Swift to the stage so she could finish her acceptance speech for winning “Best Female Video.” In the much publicized controversy, Kanye West unbelivably stormed the stage at The MTV Video Music Awards and took the mic from Taylor Swift to declare he thought Beyonce should have won the award leaving Swift stunned for millions of viewers to see. So how does some of Country music’s biggest names feel about Kanye’s treatment of Taylor Swift? |
Artisan News caught up with Vince Gill, who once had a similar thing happen to him by Kanye West during the Grammy’s, to get his thoughts on not being surprised by Kanye West’s antics. |
“Oh you know, it didn’t surprise me. It didn’t surprise me. It is what it is. He did the same thing to me at the Grammy’s last year. Very similar and I had way of putting it back on him a little bit. But you know, he’s just a young guy and he believes what he believes and he’s got a passion for what he loves and what he doesn’t love. It’s all good, nobody got hurt.” |
Emmylou Harris also talked about how much class Beyonce showed in calling Taylor Swift back to the stage to finish her speech. |
“You know I did not see what happened. I was somewhere, I can’t remember but I heard about it obviously because when something like that happens it becomes the most important thing on the news cycle. Which I actually think is a bit sad. But I say kudos to Beyonce she showed real class, absolutely!” |
This was hardly Kanye West’s first controversy at an awards show. During the 2007 VMAs West lost his temper and suggested race had to do with him having to perform in a Las Vegas hotel suite instead of the mainstage. That same night after losing out an all 5 nominations, Kanye was visably upset and stated he would never come back to MTV again. West has also caused a stir by declaring former President Bush “Didn’t care for black people” during a Hurricane Katrina fund raising event on National T.V. In January of 2006, West again sparked controversy when he appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in the image of Jesus wearing a crown of thorns. West has also clashed with organizers of America’s most successful festival, Bonnaroo after throwing yet another diva fit because he once again wasn’t happy when things don’t go his way! |
West has repeatedly apologized for his actions at this year’s VMA Award on his blog, on “The Jay Leno” show and to Swift herself although it’s clear the damage to his reputation has been done. It was also recently announced that his Fame Kills tour with Lady Gaga had been canceled, a move that might signal Kanye will be holding true to his word and taking time away from the public eye “to analyze how I’m gonna make it through the rest of this life and improve.” |
