EVEN AFTER THE LOSS, DAVE MATTHEWS FLATTERED FOR GRAMMY NOM
Although Dave Matthews didn’t take home any Grammy Awards for his latest album “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” the album marked the 5th consecutive #1 Album for Matthews and many of his fans consider it his best work yet. In fact the album was up for a Grammy for Best Album, although he lost out to Taylor Swift and it was also nominated in the Best Rock Album category although they got beat out again by Green Day. “GrooGrux King” is the bands first studio album since 2005’s “Stand Up” and is a tribute to their former saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who tragically died in 2008 in an ATV accident during the band’s beginning of the recording sessions. |
At Grammy rehearsals Dave Matthews talked about “GrooGrux King being his best album yet. |
“You know I think it’s the best work I’ve ever done and Roi felt like it was going to be the best work we’ve ever done and we all think that so then for it to be acknowledged, like this is really awesome. I would still think it was the best thing I’ve ever did whether or not we were nominated for something but it feels really…it’s more flattering because I’m so proud of how we managed everthing that happened during the making of the record. So, really it’s great.” |
Dave Matthews also talked about how much respect he has for honoring other musicians at The Grammy Awards, even though he might run in other circles. |
“The Grammy’s have been around for a fairly long time relatively, I’m not really…It’s not in my zone but I respect a lot of the musicians and the people that are represented here and I respect honoring people that are contributing to this society. Like I said, for this album of ours to be singled out as something special is really good for me. There’s so many great musicians in the world that I love and that I respect that the vast majority of them are far under the radar of The Grammy’s. So, maybe I just walk in a different circle. Round and round with strange people that don’t fit the mold.” |
In an initiative to assist in providing long-term support to the people of the earthquake-ravaged nation of Haiti, Dave Matthews Band has established the Bama Works Haiti Relief Fund. Recently named by Billboard as one of the top touring acts of the past decade, Dave Matthews will kick off an 18-city tour of Europe on February 16th, beginning in Hamburg and wrapping up March 15th in Stockholm. US Dates kick off May 28th in Hartford, CT and extending until September 15 in St. Paul, MN. |
