50 CENT UNDER FIRE FROM ANTI VIOLENCE GROUPS
50 Cent is the master of controversy and it appears the superstar is in the middle of another big one as several Los Angeles-based groups have taken exception to the ads for his new movie, Get Rich Or Die Tryin. In the ads, the rapper is seen holding two handguns. Several organizations including Project Islamic HOPE, The National Action Network, Justice For Murdered Children, the local NAACP, Stop The Violence Increase The Peace and Dr. Earl Ofari Hutchinson are calling for all the ads to be pulled from the marketplace or face a potential boycott. |
Najee Ali of Project Islamic HOPE told Allhiphop.com, “Gun violence is one of the leading causes of death for young black males in South Central Los Angeles and across urban America. It’s irresponsible for Paramount Pictures to promote and market a movie that glorifies carrying guns.Guns are weapons of mass destruction that are used to kill people. We demand that Paramount Pictures remove these negative images of death and destruction, images that our young children are influenced by.” |
The movie is slated to hit theaters on November 9th. |
