3:10 TO YUMA ROPES IN WEEKEND BOX OFFICE
3:10 To Yuma is number one at the box office this weekend. |
The western 3:10 To Yuma about a notorious gang of gunmen who rob the Southern Pacific Railroad in the Old West ropes in the box office 14 million dollars it’s opening weekend. |
The film which stars Christian Bale as a rancher in search of the notorious Ben Wade played by Russell Crowe is described by director James Mangold as someone the audience roots for. |
“Christian has a kind of intensity and a kind of integrity that leaps out of his eyes, that is incredibly strong. What was really interesting was that casting someone like Dan Evans who’s living life in a way tied back limping, hopping along trying to just deal with the obstacles getting thrown at him and handle the role with the kind of strength that Christian has. And I think it makes a really noble character and someone you identify with instead of thinking he’s kind of a loser.” |
For the role of the charismatic cowboy Wade, Mangold immediately thought of Crowe for his unabashed masculinity. |
“Russell is someone who has shown, I think whenever he’s made a period film it’s exceptional work. And I think the reason a lot of his films that have taken place in the past all the way back to films as far back in time like Gladiator is that he brings such a kind of clean, crisp, masculine commitment to the role.” |
3:10 To Yuma also robbed Halloween of it’s number one spot, knocking it down to second with $10 million. The coming of age comedy Superbad fell to third with $8 million. |
