30 SECONDS TO MARS LIKES SLOW KILL, PRODUCTION, AND TOURING

30 Seconds To Mars is continuing its slow march to the top of the Alternative Rock Charts. Their single, “The Kill,” has been creeping up the charts, and it’s one of the oldest songs on their latest album, A Beautiful Lie. |
Band mastermind Jared Leto said that the band is open to direction, but at the end of the day the music comes down to 30 Seconds To Mars. |
“Well, there’s one real producer for 30 Seconds To Mars, and that is us. There are people we’ve invited to be a part of that process, Bob Ezrin and Josh Abraham. But it’s very clear that the ultimate decision lays with 30 Seconds To Mars. We’re not a band that has anybody come in manufacturing anything for us. That being said, both of those guys helped us make better records, and I learned a lot from both of them as I’m sure we all did, but the success or failure is going to lie in our hands. Josh created a great environment for us to work in and identified the song ‘Attack’ as something that would work on our album, so he’s definitely good at what he does.” |
30 Seconds To Mars is in the middle of a relentless tour schedule, and the band has played more headlining dates than they have taken opening slots for other bands. Guitarist Tomo compared the two. |
“Being on a headlining tour is defnitely different. There’s a lot more pressure on us, because it’s all about us. Also, the perception of the fans that come to the show is very different. We’ve played headling shows, like one-offs, but (until now) it’s never been a full promoted national tour that we’re taking these bands out and this is our tour and come see us. So the way people view us is different too. It’s a lot more energy and just a lot more craziness which we love. But all-in-all it’s amazing.” |
